Programs

MED-PREP Program provides health career exposure to high school students. It enriches education and encourages students to continue their scholarly endeavor at a college or university and motivates them to pursue a medical or health related profession. This program is available to all high school (grades 9th - 12th) in Bexar County and surrounding areas.

PRE-MED Summer Clerkship Program was designed to provide undergraduate students the opportunity to obtain exposure to the medical field. For six weeks during the summer, students are assigned to work with a physician in a clinic or hospital setting. Currently, this program is being re-structured and will be re-named the Health Professions Summer Enrichment Program (HPSEP). The purpose of the program will be to assist Hispanic students who are under-privileged, financially and educationally, in enhancing their ability to become part of the competitive applicant pool seeking a health profession career. The HPSEP will be a collaborative effort with MAHPA and the Medical Hispanic Center of Excellence of the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio . The specific goal of the program is to increase the ability of undergraduate students to be more competitive when applying to a health profession school. The program will provide a curriculum to assist in seeking a health profession career.

Continuing Medical Education Programs are presentations or seminars that provide education to physicians on current medical issues that benefit their patients. These programs are open to all interested physicians.

College Scholarship Program is aimed at high school seniors who are accepted to a college or university.  Scholarships are awarded on academic achievement and on extra curricular activities.  Furthermore, students who participate in MED-PREP and attend the University of the Incarnate Word receive an additional $1,000 per year, for up to four years.

Medical Student Scholarships Program is for first-year minority medical students.  It awards each student with a new set of medical instruments (stethoscope, blood pressure cuff, etc.) that are required  during the first year of medical training.

Jose A. Diaz M.D. Memorial Scholarship and the President's Scholarship are awarded to college bound high school students who have exemplified academic excellence and leadership.
